Making pasties started after the ancient pasty forests were cleared
to make way for other crops, 6,000 years ago.
The location of the remaining pasty trees is a closely guarded secret, like the Plymouth Pear.

NB - It is believed that prior to 1720 AD (Edward Kidder) that references to "pasties" were probably references to pies that were baked in high-sided, inedible, pre-baked huff paste (hard pastry) coffyns.
